Radhika Apte happy to be back in Bengali films

Marathi actress Radhika Apte, who is playing the role of a journalist for the second time in her next Bengali film 'Pendulam', says she has nothing to crib about it.
The actress also played a TV journalist in her first film 'Antaheen', directed by Aniruddha, which fetched her a National award.
Asked if she feared being typecast, she said, "It is a mere coincidence that I am back into Bengali films with 'Pendulam' where I again play the character of a journalist."
Radhika said that she has developed a love affair with Bengali films and especially Bengali directors, whom she finds unmatched in sensitivity and intensity.
Her second film 'Pendulam' is being directed by Soukarjo Ghoshal, who will make his directorial debut with the movie.
"The film deals with interplay of different emotions and mood swings - a very new concept which I always come across when I get to act in Bengali movies," Radhika said.
Soukarjo on his part said, "I principally cast Radhika taking into consideration her very Bengali look and easy-going girl-next-door image. The film's subtext chronicles the city of Kolkata as it shifts through time to emerge as a complex psychological allegory of a decadent metropolis." The actress also said that she is always open to work with new Bengali directors, as they offer new insight into the scripts.
"I wish to feature in Tonyda's (Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury) work again," Radhika said.
She said that she was supposed to be part of a second project by the director, but it did not take off.
Asked if she thinks her role in 'Pendulam' will help her get another National award, she said, "I am not into such thoughts. I want the role of the entire cast and crew to be appreciated, not mine alone."
Radhika said the reason it took her three long years to be part of another Bengali movie after 2009 film 'Antaheen' was that she was not getting good offers.
"And I was busy with Hindi and Marathi films after return from London where I went to do a course on contemporary dance," she said.
Radhika, who starred in 'Tukaram' in her mother tongue Marathi besides 'Shor in the City' and 'Raktacharitra' in Hindi, said that apart from Marathi, Hindi and Bengali are the two other languages which come naturally to her.
"I am not comfortable with roles requiring me to run around trees and fall on hero's lap. Beyond that, I don't differentiate between films. I go for scripts with substantial acting scope."
The actress also said that she wants to be part of films which have a female lead.
"Look what Vidya (Balan) has done in 'Kahaani' or 'The Dirty Picture'," she said.
Radhika will begin shooting with Vinay Pathak for a Hindi film soon.
