Five soldiers die in Skardu chopper crash
SKARDU: An MI-17 helicopter of the Army Aviation crashed on the Skardu Airport runway on Wednesday just after taking off, killing five personnel, including an officer, and injuring three others.

The Skardu Airport runway is situated next to the airbase from where the helicopter took off. Pakistan Army personnel cordoned off the site soon after the incident, which occurred at 5:00pm. Those who died in the incident include Major Amir Afzal, Havaldar Wahid, Havaldar Zeeshan, Naik Imran and Sepoy Karimulah, while Major Shoaib, Havaldar Ahmed Shah and Sepoy Noor were critically injured.

Our correspondent adds: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has sent condolences over the loss of human lives as a result of the army helicopter crash in Skardu. He expressed profound grief over the deaths and prayed for departed souls. He also expressed sympathies with the bereaved families. PML-N leader Marvi Memon termed the tragic incident a loss for the nation and Pakistan Army. She sent condolences to the bereaved families and the army.
